. — CARLISLE — William “Bill Jack” Shipman, 80, of Carlisle, passed away at 7:12 a.m. Tuesday, March 16, 2010, at Miller’s Merry Manor in Sullivan. He was born in Sullivan County on Sept. 23, 1929, the son of Jack Raymond Shipman and Erlene Borders Shipman. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, a retired Sullivan City Policeman, a member of the Local Fraternal Order of Police, and retired from the Carpenters Union Local 347.
He was preceded in death by his father, Jack; and his mother and stepfather, Erlene and Bynum Usrey.
Survivors include the mother of his children, Donetta Stockrahm Shipman; two sons, Matt Shipman of San Antonio, and Mike Shipman of Bunker Hill, Ind.; five daughters, Jo Lyttle of Carlisle, Jill Hadar (David Jones) of Terre Haute, Cathy Mason (Mark) of Oaktown, Lela Santus of Carlisle, and Greta Fulford of Sullivan; one sister, Julia White of Sullivan; 17 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday, March 19, 2010, at Banks and Brust Funeral Home, in Sullivan, with Pastor Jeff Lee officiating. Interment is in Center Ridge Cemetery, with graveside services by the Sullivan, Shelburn and Hymera American Legion posts, and Sullivan County Veterans of Foreign Wars Post. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday.
