Kitty J. Higginbotham

MARTINSVILLE, ILL. — MARTINSVILLE, Ill. — Kitty J. Higginbotham, 80, of Martinsville, passed away at 1:25 p.m. Sunday, May 6, 2012, at Union Hospital, in Terre Haute, Ind. She was born June 12, 1931, in Wabash Township, in Clark Co., the daughter of Clarence L. and Catherine I. Wyrick Barkley. She married Clifford Higginbotham on July 3, 1950, in Marshall.

Surviving are her husband, Clifford; a son, Steven Higginbotham of Lerna; a sister, Janet Angle of Marshall; two brothers, Frank Barkley of Terre Haute, and Tom Barkley of Marshall; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Evitt; and two brothers, Gene Barkley and Robert “Red” Barkley.

She was a member of the First Christian Church of Marshall and was a member of the You and I Sunday School Class of the church. She formerly served as the Auburn Township clerk and Auburn Township supervisor, positions which she held at the same time. For many years she was an area collector for the American Heart Association and was a member of the Burnsides Guild of the Burnsides Community Health Center of Marshall. She was a graduate of Marshall High School.

Services in honor of her life will be 10:30 a.m. CDT Wednesday at Pearce Funeral Home, in Marshall, with Brother Billie Ray Ulrey officiating. Burial will be in Marshall Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today and 7 a.m. until service time Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, it is requested memorial contributions be made to the Oblong Christian Children’s Home or to the America Heart Association. Online condolences will be accepted at:
