Janet Matteson-Burk of Terre Haute, our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend passed away on the morning of Monday, Sept. 3, 2012, at Union Hospital at the age of 58.
Jan was born in Charleston, Ill., on July 10, 1954, the daughter of the late Glen and Dorothy (Fuller) Matteson. She proudly served our country with the U.S. Army, where she specialized in payroll. Jan was most recently employed by Mosaic as a caregiver. A woman of great character, Jan earned the love and respect of many, and never knew a stranger. A constant source of love and compassion, Jan was the rock that family and friends turned to. She was very independent, strong willed, kind, and always refrained from judging others. She dearly loved her family, and always had a special spot in her heart for her grandbabies. In Jan’s free time, she enjoyed attending to her plants, gardening and playing Bingo. Her memory will live on in the hearts of those she touched for generations to come.
She leaves to cherish her memory her four children, Courtney and husband Jason Lash of Brazil, Brittney Burk of Terre Haute, Ethaniel Burk of Terre Haute and Kelsey Burk of Terre Haute; grandchildren, Ryan, Abbie, Layla, Kyleigh and Dawson; siblings, Terry Matteson, Penny Stultz, Lonney Fuller, Donna Daub, Shawna, Justin and Jessica Fuller, along with several loving nieces, nephews and friends.
In addition to her parents, Jan was welcomed home to heaven by her two sisters, Loyce Pridemore and Marcie Swinford.
Visitation will be on Thursday, Sept. 6, 2012, from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. and again on Friday, Sept. 7, 2012, from 10 a.m. until Jan’s Funeral Ceremony at 11 a.m. at the Thomas Funeral Home, 2200 N. 13th St., Terre Haute. The Rev. Gary Scroggins will officiate with cremation to follow. Jan will be laid to rest with her mother at Highland Lawn at a later date. Memorial contributions may be directed to Fifth Third Bank, where a fund has been established to benefit Arthrogryposis Multiplex Congenita, AMCsupport Inc. & Shriners Hospital in Philadelphia, Pa.
