William Dale Harrison

TERRE HAUTE — William Dale “Bill” Harrison, 87, of North Terre Haute, died Friday, Dec. 14, 2012, after a long period of declining health. He was a retired machinist and mechanical engineer. Harrison was born Nov. 14, 1925, in Vermillion County, the son of John and Jane Harrison. He served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theater during World War II, earning the rank of Fireman First Class while aboard the submarine USS Trutta. He also served at the Crane Navel Depot and returned to duty in Washington, D.C., during the Korean War. He was maintenance supervisor at Visqueen Corporation plant, before becoming manager of Wabash Machine. He retired in 1987.

He married Betty Sturm in April 1944, in New London, Conn. She preceded him in death in 1988. He also was preceded in death by his parents; the aunt that raised him, Gladys Stone; three brothers, Gene, Bob and Bud; and a son-in-law, Dennis Lankford.

 Harrison is survived by a daughter, Joyce Lankford of Owensville; a daughter and son-in-law, Judy and David Eiseman of Fontanet; a son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Beth Harrison of Robinson, Ill..; nine grandchildren; several great and great-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

 In  accordance with Bill’s wishes, there will be no funeral service. A memorial service will be held 1 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2012, at Forest Park Baptist Church, 3900 E. Park Ave. in North Terre Haute. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. Online condolences may be made at:
