BRAZIL — John L. Williams, 82, of Brazil, passed away Dec. 13, 2012, at Cloverleaf Healthcare Facility following a brief illness. He was born Jan. 18, 1930, in Clay County, the son of Jesse Williams and Lillie Slack Williams. He graduated from VanBuren High School and following school, he entered the U.S. Air Force. He served for three years stationed in Germany.
On Dec. 31, 1955, John was united in marriage to Donna Girton Williams. Together they raised their family in Clay County. John started his work career as a truck driver and then went into wholesale fertilizer sales. In 1969 he became the owner/operator of J&J Farm Supply. John also has been a farmer essentially his whole adult life. When he “retired” he became the help to his sons who were farming and also had the joy of picking up the grandchildren at school. He and Donna did enjoy spending winter months at Fort Myers Beach. He could be found fishing, boating or watching the baseball spring training games while in Florida. He was a NASCAR fan, and an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. Another side to John was watching 4-H Swine Shows. His grandchildren show pigs, so Pap John was always there to watch and participate.
He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his loving wife, Donna Williams of Brazil; four children, Debbie Sneddon and husband Scott of Harmony, Doug Williams and wife Gail of Brazil, A.J. Williams and wife Kristi of Cory, and Amy Bussing and husband Derek of Carbon; grandchildren, Jamie Elwell (Scott), Lisa Pearson (Brian), Bowen Bussing, Brooklee Bussing, Cale Williams, Blake Williams, Drew Williams and Brant Williams; great-grandchildren, Michael, Kalyn, Kinsey, B.J., Jonathan, Zaden, and Paxton; brother-in-law, Larry Girton and wife Kay; and other extended family and many friends.
Services will be held Monday, Dec. 17, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Lawson-Miller Chapel with Pastors Barry Corder and Chris Lee officiating. Burial will follow at Calcutta Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. and again Monday prior to services. Memorial contributions may be made to Carbon Baptist Church or to First Prairie Creek Baptist Church, Building Fund. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Pallbearers will include, Scott Sneddon, Derek Bussing, Scott Elwell, Brian Pearson, Pat Girton, and Eric Girton.
