TERRE HAUTE —
Sarah Coons, 96, of West Terre Haute, passed away at 7:15 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2012, in Cobblestone Crossing Health Campus. She retired in 1987 after many years as a secretary with Hamilton Center. She also had been employed with Beacon School of The Valley. She was born Jan. 17, 1916, in West Terre Haute, to Elizabeth and John Armstrong. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester E. Coons.
Survivors include two daughters, Delores King-Hudson, and Janet Bays and husband Daniel; two sisters, Ethel Rowe, and Rebecca Remick and husband, Larry; two grandchildren, Eric King and wife Paulinea, and Kurt King and wife Gabriel; great-grandchildren, Sarah King, Anthony J. “A.J.” King, Brian Henderson and wife Megan, Regan King, Owen King, and Ethan King; a great-granddaughter, Clara Henderson; and several nieces and nephews.
She also was preceded in death by three sisters and four brothers-in-law, Margaret and Ernest Tatem, Georginia and Howard Tatem, and Agnes and Howard Sewell, and Gene Rowe; and a special friend, Al Lingenfelser.
Sarah was a member of First Baptist Church of West Terre Haute.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday in Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jeff Augustus officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday. The family kindly suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Helping Hands Clothing Store in West Terre Haute or to VistaCare Hospice, with envelopes available in the funeral home.
