Lowell Badger

GRAYSVILLE — Lowell Badger, 85, of Graysville, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012. Lowell was born to Frank Henderson Badger and Beulah Idell Raines Badger on Aug. 28, 1927, in Sullivan County, in Turman Township.   

He is survived by daughters, Brenda Bales (Don) of Terre Haute, and Linda Sturgeon (Steve) of Bluffton; a son, Alan Badger (Audrey) of Sullivan; a sister, Eunice Hanthorn of Watertown, S.D.; a brother, Philip Badger (Freda) of Greencastle; grandchildren, Don Bales (Bonnie) of Zanesville, Ron Bales (Melissa) of Greenfield, Matthew and Aaron Sturgeon of Bluffton, Kelsey and Patrick Badger of Sullivan; four great-grandchildren, Faith, Franklin, Ellie and Ivan Bales of Zanesville; and a very special friend, Mary Arnett.    

He was preceded in death by his wife, Nellie Faye Foutz Badger in 2008; a son, Byron Raines Badger in 1957; three sisters, Halcyon Winters, Hester Hall, and Mary E. Badger.   

He was a retired farmer and a 1945 graduate of Graysville High School. Lowell was an active member of Kingsley Memorial UMC since 1960, holding various leadership positions in the church. He also served for 28 years on various committees and boards at the Sullivan County Credit Union, 40 years with the Island Levee Conservancy District, and eight years as District 7 Director Farm Bureau. He was a devout Christian who lived by the verse Joshua 24:15b “As for me and my family, we will serve the Lord.”

Visitation will be Sunday from 1 to 7 p.m. at Holmes Memorial Chapel, Sullivan. Services are Monday at 11 a.m. at First Christian Church, 105 N. Broad St., Sullivan, with the Revs. Paul Myers, Paul Ayers and Frank VanAllen officiating. Interment will follow in Center Ridge Cemetery in Sullivan. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Kingsley Memorial United Methodist Church, Attn: Riley Nichols, 9581 W Co Rd 450 N, Sullivan IN, 47882.
