Thomas Arthur (Sy) Syvertsen

CLINTON — Thomas Arthur (Sy) Syvertsen, 76, of Clinton, died peacefully at home, of natural causes, on Dec. 10, 2012, at 6:34 a.m. He was born Feb. 27, 1936, in Marysville, Calif.

 He was preceded in death by his wife of 41 years, Georgia Louise; parents, Carl Tonus Syvertsen and Helen Marie Syvertsen; and his daughter, Cheryl.

 Survivors include brother, Donald A. Syvertsen (Elvira “Izzy”); children, Thomas, Douglas (Donna), Karla and Cindy “Cip” (Mike McLeish); stepchildren, Kyle Laney (Patty) and Linda Helms (Dan). He was the beloved grandpa of Diane Laney, Brian Laney, Mike Laney, Rick Laney, Travis Laney, Jason Lebrandt and Justin Lebrandt, Lydia Helms Clark, Eli Helms, Desiree’ Helms Morrical, Corey McLeish, Kylin McLeish Brown, Matthew McLeish, Aaron McLeish, Isaac McLeish, Joshua McLeish, Rebecca McLeish, Ian McLeish and Jacob McLeish, Victoria Syvertsen, Brittney Syvertsen, Ashley Syvertsen and Dillon Syvertsen. Great-grandchildren include Brett Laney, Casidy Laney, Shaun Laney, Julie Laney, Ashylyn Laney, Alex Kilenbeck, Hailey Lebrandt, Marrisa Lebrandt, Katie Lebrandt, Eliana Clark, Abriel Clark and Benson Brown.

 Tom graduated from Marysville Union High School in 1953. He attended Yuba College. He entered the trade of electrical work as the youngest journeyman in the state of California in 1958, and became a lifelong member of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and for many years of Local 538. He was a member of the United Presbyterian Church of Clinton.

 Visitation will be at Giovanini Funeral Home, 408 Vine St., today from 4 to 8 p.m. Funeral service will be at the church, 301 Mulberry St., on Thursday at 10 a.m., with the Rev. Mark Olsen officiating. Online condolences can be made at:
