GREENCASTLE — Melvin Franklin Olson Sr., 87, of Greencastle, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 2, 2012, at Terre Haute Regional Hospital in Terre Haute. He was born on Oct. 18, 1925, in Sullivan County, Ind., the son of Berndt and Carrie Marie (Crooks) Olson. Melvin was an electrician for the local union 725 IBEW.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Dorvin Olson, Dwayne Olson, and Richard Olson; and one sister, Wilma Ruwe.

Survivors include two sons, Melvin (Peggy) Olson Jr. of Terre Haute, and John C. (Barbie) Olson Sr. of Fairbanks; one sister, Garnetta Olson of Sullivan; five grandchildren, Dana Marie (Gabe) Boone, Jarrod (Jennifer) Olson, John (Gemmy) Olson Jr., Stefanie Olson, and Nick DeHart; and eight great-grandchildren, Teagan, Braxton, Landon, Blake, Dylan, Cole, Zane, and Faedra.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6, 2012, at Banks and Brust Funeral Home, 400 N. Court St., in Sullivan, with Allan Griggs officiating. Interment will follow in Center Ridge Cemetery located in Sullivan. Friends may call from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 6, 2012, at the funeral home.
