Dr. Carl A. Smudde

Dr. Carl A. Smudde, 66, of Terre Haute, IN died Tuesday, November 27, 2012 in his home. He was born February 25, 1946 in Terre Haute, IN to Theodore Smudde and Elizabeth Doliana Smudde. Dr. Smudde was a dentist practicing in Terre Haute, IN since 1977.

Survivors include his wife, Deborah Marie Cottrell-Smudde; three children, Anne Christian Sultzer and her husband, Tony, of Pendleton, IN, Meredeth Gray and her husband, Manuel, of Terre Haute, IN, and Justin Smudde and his significant other, Paola, of Ashville, NC; three siblings, Marilyn Klug of Terre Haute, IN, Glenn Smudde of LaPorte, IN, and Roy Smudde of Valencia, CA; and six grandchildren, Taylor Gray, Alexis Smudde, Ciara Sultzer, Ashton Gray, Hunter Sultzer, and Hannah Smudde.  He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Donald Smudde.   

Carl was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church. He was also a member of the Indiana Dental Association, American Dental Association, and the Western Indiana Dental Society. Carl belonged to the Eagle Creek Sailing Club and was a Human Rights Advocate. He was a Member at Large of the Spina Bifida Association and a member of the Church of Scientology.

Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, December 1, 2012 in Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church with close friend Monsignor Tony Voltz officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in the family burial plot. Visitation is scheduled from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Friday, November 30, 2012 at Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 S. 25th Street. Pall Bearers will be Justin Smudde, Tony and Hunter Sultzer, Manuel and Taylor Gray, Allen Smudde, Ted Smudde, Daniel Klug, Richard Klug, and Rick Cottrell.

Rebecca L. (Givens) Williams

Rebecca L. (Givens) Williams, 63, of Whiteland, Ind., died Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2012, in Indianapolis. Rebecca was born Sept. 15, 1949, to Charles and Anna Mae (Tweedy) Givens, in Chicago. Rebecca married James E. “Jim” Williams on July 24, 1966, in Terre Haute. They were married for 46 years.

She received a bachelor’s degree in psychology and criminology from Indiana State University. She was employed with the State of Indiana as a case worker in Department of Family Service Administration for 19 years.

Rebecca enjoyed roller skating, bowling, cooking, and baking. She loved Christmas and spending time with her family. Her time with her husband, children, and grandchildren made her truly happy.

Rebecca was preceded in death by her father, Charles Givens; and her grandson, Matthew Williams.

She was survived by her mother, Anna Mae Brock; her husband, Jim Williams; their two children, Paul Williams and his wife Angela, and Tabitha Williams; and three grandchildren, Trinity Williams, Brittany Williams, and Emily Williams; her brother, Scott Brock and his wife Susie; her nephews, Chase Williams, Chris Brock, his wife Meghan, Brandon Brock, and Cody Brock.

A funeral services will be conducted at 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012, at Jessen Funeral Home, Whiteland Chapel, 729 U.S, Highway 31 North, Whiteland. Friends and family may call from 2 p.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be 11:30 a.m. Monday at Highland Lawn Cemetery in Terre Haute.
