Don R. Shonk

LINTON — Don R. Shonk, age 72, of Linton, passed away at 4:24 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2012, at Greene County General Hospital. He was born May 18, 1940, in Linton, the son of Rex and Julia (Swan) Shonk. He was retired after working at the Minnehaha Coal Mine and was a member of United Mine Workers of America. He was a member of American Legion Post 22 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7118, and was a U.S. Army veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Jane E. (Reed) Shonk, whom he married Aug. 15, 1994; two daughters, Tamra and Lisa; a stepdaughter, Kathy (Bill) Drogich of Linton; a brother, Rick (Linda) Shonk of Linton; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded by his parents; and a sister, Marlene Walton.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 29, 2012, at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery. The Linton American Legion will conduct graveside military rites. Visitation will be 9 a.m. until services Thursday. Online condolences can be made at:
