. — Charles Lawrence Miles, 87, a former resident of Terre Haute, died March 10, 2010, at Laurenwood Nursing Home in Duncanville, Texas. A memorial service will be held today at Jaynes Memorial Chapel, in Duncanville. Burial will follow at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery.

Mr. Miles was born Dec. 9, 1922, in Elmwood, Ill., to Elmer and Viola Manock Miles. He graduated from Elmwood High School in 1941. He married Virginia Shepard of Terre Haute, on March 17, 1951, and lived in Terre Haute from that time on. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. After his discharge, he was employed as a carpenter for many years. He was an active member of Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church. Charles’ kind heart was an inspiration to his family. He lived his life with integrity and faithfulness.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia Miles; his son and daughter-in-law, Nathan and Marsha Miles of Dallas; daughter and son-in-law, Pam and Gary Gentry of Terre Haute; brother and sister-in-law, Clifford and Margaret Miles of Springfield, Ill.; grandchildren, Adam Gentry, Lucas Gentry, Beth Miles Carrera, Rachel Miles Knutson, April Miles Thornton; step-grandchildren, Heather Relyea Ashley, Brigette Relyea, and Bobby Relyea; 10 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and loving friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; and by his infant child, Terry Nathan Miles.
