Charles Michael Kelley

TERRE HAUTE — Our brother, Charles Michael Kelley, entered the gates of heaven on Feb. 16, 2013, at 2:26 p.m., after passing from this earth peacefully and surrounded by family, following a long, hard-fought battle with cancer. We find peace in knowing Chuck was welcomed into his heavenly home with open arms by his spiritual father, his loving parents, grandparents, sister Betty, and niece Stacy. Chuck was born on Jan. 29, 1953, to Charles H. Kelley and Marjorie M. (Lawson) Kelley.

Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Marge; paternal grandparents, Michael Kelley and Mary Estelle (Couch) Kelley; maternal grandparents, Frank and Bessie Lawson; loving sister, Betty Kelley; beloved niece, Stacy (Kelley) Sullivan; as well as several aunts, uncles, and great-nieces. Chuck is deeply missed and survived by his brothers and sisters-in-law, Harrold and Cathy Kelley of Shelburn, Herb and Cindy Kelley of Greenwood, and Roy and Teresa Kelley of Terre Haute; brother, Frank “Big Bud” Kelley of Indianapolis, whom he was always proud to share the same birth date with 19 years apart, as well as, his sisters and brothers-in-law, Jackie (Kelley) Forney and husband Larry of Terre Haute, Carolyn (Kelley) Fiesel and husband Mike of Bedford, and Katie (Kelley) Forsythe and life-long companion Mark Thomason of Indianapolis. Chuck also is missed and survived by his close friend, Martha (Garner) Kelley of Marshall, Ill., whom he referred to as his “Minnie Mouse,” and he was her “Mickey Mouse,” and Terrie (Bowsher) Kelley of Ohio; and stepsons, James and Everett Williams, also of Ohio, as well as, many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, family, and many friends.

Chuck knew not a stranger and would do anything in his power to help anyone in need. His love for his family was beyond unconditional and will never be replaced or forgotten. Chuck spent the majority of his younger years playing in country and western bands with the Pruitt brothers, as well as, a few others, where he was known as one of Terre Haute’s best drummers. Chuck often received special requests, during appearances, to play “Wipeout” blind-folded, and he would do it with pleasure, without missing a beat, and leaving crowds standing, applauding, and cheering for more. Chuck also loved playing his guitar and singing, especially for his family during the holidays. After Chuck’s music days ended, he spent several years working along side his brother, Roy, at Parks Purity Pies, until a serious back injury left him unable to work. Chuck also was an avid sports fan, and never missed a day watching the Cubs, Bears, or NASCAR, just like our dad. Chuck always took time out of his day, even when sick, to call and check on his family or drive to pay a visit, often bringing many laughs and cherished memories. We, as a family, have a void that can never be filled. We would like to give a special thanks to our niece, Wendy Cooprider, and our cousin, Shari Kelley, for also staying faithful at his bedside with our family during this difficult time, as well as, many other family members and friends that came to visit Chuck in his last days. Lastly, let us not forget, Dr. Lim, Dr. Reddy, Dr. Mendoza, and Southern Care Hospice for giving our brother the best care possible, and special thanks to Dr. Lim for treating Chuck, not like a patient, but like family.

Services will be Friday, Feb. 22, 2013, at Callahan-DeBaun Funeral Home at 2425 Wabash Ave., with visitation from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with services at 1 p.m. Interment will be at Roselawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Terre Haute Humane Society. Online condolences can be made at:
