Frances Kathryn Jackson Litten Valentine

TERRE HAUTE — Frances Kathryn Jackson Litten Valentine, 86, of Terre Haute, passed away at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, 2013, at Royal Oaks Health and Rehabilitation Center in Terre Haute. She was born April 16, 1926, in Paris, Ill., to William Isaac Jackson and Hazel Jane Edington Jackson.

Frances had been an Air Force wife during her husband’s career in the United States Air Force during which they had traveled extensively during his many years in the service. She also was the owner and operator of Snappy Snack Restaurant in Terre Haute for many years. She also was a certified nursing assistant and provided home health care for many years retiring at age 70 due to her health. She enjoyed working and staying busy and would have rather continued to work had that been possible.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Wesley Harry Litten; and her second husband, Walter Samuel Valentine. Survivors include four daughters, Pamela L. Cox and her husband Fred of Terre Haute, Rebecca A. Barton and her husband Robert of Indianapolis, Lucy Sheehan and her husband Tim of Terre Haute, and Frances Palmer of Fishers; a special cousin, Mary Kaye Owen of Shepardsville, whom was like a daughter; two sisters, Wilma Waldrop and her husband Bud of Clinton, and Judy Donnelly of West Terre Haute; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Paul and Ginny Jackson of Clinton, and Kenneth and Donna Jackson of Blanford; a sister-in-law, Kathleen Jackson of Terre Haute; nine grandchildren, Elizabeth “Libby” Rubacha (Matt) of Bedford, Jonathon Barton of Indianapolis, Erin Downey (Patrick) of Westfield, Ind., Susan Atterson (Larry) of Brazil, Sandy Fry (Jack) of Lake Jackson, Texas, John Cox of Terre Haute, Betsy Paauwe (Engel) of Shorewood, Ill., Brenda Cox and her husband Cairey Oxendine of Terre Haute, and Scott Quinn (Jackie) of Washington, D.C.; numerous great-grandchildren including Brandon and Ashley Rubacha and Kate and Colin Downey; several great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She also was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Bob Palmer; a sister, Helen Jackson; four brothers, James A. Jackson and his wife June, William Jackson and his wife Norma, Charles Jackson and his wife Katherine, and Robert Jackson; and her brother-in-law, John Donnelly.

Frances was a graduate of Fayette High School. She was a member of the Christian Church for many years, a member of the Order of Eastern Star West Terre Haute Chapter 421, past Worthy Matron of the former Order of Eastern Star New Goshen Chapter 86, Red Hat Society, The Daughters of the Nile, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 972 Ladies Auxiliary, and she was a staunch democrat.

Funeral services for Frances will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013, in Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, 220 N. 3rd St., West Terre Haute, with O.E.S. Memorial services by O.E.S. Chapter 421 followed by services with the Rev. Matt Rubacha officiating. Visitation will be 11 a.m. until service time Saturday. Burial will be in Rosehill Cemetery. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to O.E.S. Chapter 421 or University of Indianapolis School of Occupational Therapy or Shriners Crippled Children’s Hospitals with envelopes available at the funeral home.
