CLINTON —
Jack Gilfoy, 90, of St. James City, Fla., and formerly of Clinton passed away at Hope Hospice Care in Cape Coral, Fla., on Sunday Feb. 17, 2013. Jack was born in Lyford, on June 30, 1922, to Henry Raymond and Bonnie L (Dunn) Gilfoy.
He graduated from Clinton High School in 1940. Jack worked at Model Cleaners for 47 years in Clinton and later became the owner for several years. After retirement he worked at Coral Oaks Golf Course for 23 years.
He married Elizabeth Ann Manship on May 15, 1943, and she preceded him in death on Oct. 15, 1985. He also was preceded in death by one son, Jackie Wayne Gilfoy; and his parents; and several aunts and uncles.
Jack is survived by his sister, Mary Lou Work of Pennsylvania; sister-in-law, Martha (John) Markello of Illinois; two sons, Jack (Joyce) Gilfoy and Ray (Liz) Gilfoy; and two daughter, Martha (Gary) Vitaniemi and Vicki (Jim) Spendal, all of Clinton. He also is survived by seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and longtime companion, Peggy Binney.
Jack was a member of Clinton Volunteer Fire department from 1953 to 1978. He was a Charter Member of the Clinton Golf Association and helped with the building of Matthews Golf Course in 1958.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, Feb. 21, 2013, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Frist Funeral Home, 458 Blackman Street, in Clinton. A private family burial will be held at Roselawn Cemetery in Terre Haute. Bob Howard will be officiating.
