  UPDATE 4: Deadly tornado roars through Oklahoma City suburb

  A monstrous tornado at least a half-mile wide roared through the Oklahoma City suburbs Monday, flattening entire neighborhoods and destroying an elementary school with a direct blow as children and teachers huddled against winds up to 200 mph. At least 51 people were killed, and officials said the death toll was expected to rise.

Ruth Margaret Payne

Ruth Margaret Payne, 93, of Terre Haute, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 7, 2012. Ruth was born March 6, 1919, in Terre Haute, to George M. Brooks and Goldie F. (Busby) Brooks.

She was a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and a member of the La Societe de Femmes, and the ladies group that supports the 40/8.

She is survived by daughter, Vicki Rainbolt and her husband Norman of Brazil; grandchildren, Kelley Hayne and husband Pat, Gregory Eicholz and wife Shawn, Robin Sharpe and husband Jim, Ronda Rainbolt and significant other Marty Wood, David Rainbolt and wife Kathy, Christina Rainbolt, Christina Willis and husband Tony and Douglas Payne and wife Jennifer; great-grandchildren, Zachary, Mary, Clayton, Jacklyn, Andy, Jason, Mitch, McKenzie, Colby and Hope, Shelby, Tylor, Trevor, Caleb, Hayden and Ellie; great-great-grandchildren, Arianna and Daryon; sisters–in-law, Patricia Brooks, Billie Dove Payne and Peggy Payne; and brother-in-law, Ronnie Payne.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James William “Cowboy” Payne, who died in 1979; a son, William Joseph Payne; and her brothers and sisters.

Visitation is from 4 until 6 p.m. Monday, Feb. 11, 2013, in Callahan-DeBaun Funeral Home, 2425 Wabash Ave., and funeral services at 6 p.m., with Pastor Aaron Wheaton officiating. Private burial will be at a later date in Highland Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that for those who desire, memorial contributions may be made to either VNA Hospice of the Wabash Valley, or Davis Gardens Health Center Staff Fund, or the charity of choice.
