James J. Sharpe

FARMERSBURG — James J. Sharpe, 94, of Farmersburg, passed away at 2:52 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, at Sullivan County Community Hospital. He was born in Sullivan County, Ind., June 27, 1918, the son of Charles E. Sharpe and Lula Ingram Sharpe.

Jim was a retired school bus driver after 28 years for Northeast School Corporation, and a World War II U.S. Army veteran. He was a member of Mount Olive Christian Church, attended First Presbyterian Church in Farmersburg. He worked for the State Highway Department, was a farmer, a 4-H Leader, on the County Board of Health, a member of Ruritan Club in Hymera. He also was a Republican Precinct Committeeman and a Delegate at the Republican State Convention for 60 years.  Jim was an avid Chicago Cubs and IU basketball fan. He was a loving husband, dad, and grandpa. He had a zest for life and lived that out every day.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife of 52 years, Rosamary Waterman Sharpe in 1994; one sister, Jean Zink; and a granddaughter, Mary Amis Sharpe.

Survivors include his wife, Geneva McKee Gilbert Sharpe; one son, James L. Sharpe of  Farmersburg; three daughters, Marilyn (Jerry) Bledsoe of Hymera, Jane ( Doc) Lee of Riley, and Carol ( Larry) Stubbs of Blackhawk; eight grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; two stepsons, Ed (Ann) Gilbert of Patricksburg, and Mike (Tami) Gilbert of Hymera; five stepdaughters, Donna (Eldon) Seifert, Peggy (Bud) Danko, Bonnie (Hugh), all of Hymera, Connie (Bill) Neal of Tennessee, and Loretta (Darrell) White of Spencer; 18 stepgrandchildren; several stepgreat-grandchildren; and one sister, Joy (Bruce) Gilman of Shelbyville, Ky.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2013, at Banks and Brust Funeral Home, in Sullivan, with Pastor Jeffrey Lee performing the service and Pastor John Turner assisting. Interment will follow in Mount Olive Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 until 8 p.m. Tuesday and one hour before service Wednesday. Online condolences at:
