Harold C. Boone

DUGGER — Harold C. Boone, 88, of Dugger, passed away Sunday, Jan. 27, 2013, at his residence surrounded by his family. He was born in Sullivan County, on Aug. 14, 1924, the son of Charles F. Boone and Mary Ethel Eaves Boone.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Baby Charles Boone, James Boone, and Robert Boone; and three sisters, Joan Axe, Betty Skaggs, and Mary Brenton.

Harold was a World War II Army veteran, a member of Dugger Masonic Lodge 721 for 50 years, and Sullivan American Legion Post 139. He retired from Indiana State University.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Virginia Ruth Brenton Boone, whom he married on Oct. 15, 1949; three daughters, Lisa Suzanne Boone of Dugger, Kathy Elaine Jones of Carlisle, and Karen Denise Gilbert of Sullivan; two sons, Charles Harold Boone of Dugger, and Douglas Eric Boone of Terre Haute, IN; three sisters, Diana Cunningham and Patricia Boone, both of Dugger, and Brenda Jones of Indianapolis; 12 grandchildren, Nicole Cook, Melissa Hutchings, Joshua Jones, Mindy Loftus, Misty Baker, Alicia Burger, Megan Taylor, Justin Hawkins, Brianna Boone Tiffany Samuels, Zachary Boone, and Ethan Boone; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013, at Newkirk’s Funeral Home, with Pastor Kenny Moyes officiating. Interment will follow in Dugger Cemetery, with graveside military rites by the Dugger, Sullivan, Shelburn, and Hymera American Legion posts, and the Sullivan VFW Post. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, and before services Thursday. Masonic services will be held at 7 p.m Wednesday.
