Lloyd C. Beyers

Lloyd C. Beyers, 95, of Mesa, Ariz., passed into the Lord's care on Jan. 14, 2013. He was born July 19, 1917, in Bloomington. He married Dorothy M. Robinson on July 16, 1938, in Logansport. Lloyd's career was in Aluminum manufacturing, with both Alcoa in Lafayette, from 1940-1954, and Anaconda in Terre Haute from 1964 until retirement. He ran a family-owned service station in Dorothy's hometown of Monticello, from 1954-1964, and then went back into manufacturing. He spent many of his retirement years in Terre Haute, but moved to Mesa in 2001, making many friends and enjoying wonderful years “in the sun.”

He had a love for his Masonic work of 69 years, and was a two-time Worshipful Master; he also was a member of Scottish Rite, Shrine and Order of the Eastern Star.  His greatest love was transporting children from Terre Haute to the Shriner Hospitals. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church. He learned to fly as a teenager and had his own small plane for many years. That passion was carried on to his sons, a grandson and a grandson-in-law. He was a golfer and a bridge-player, and always whistled as he went through each day.

He is survived by his wife of 74 years, Dorothy of Mesa; children, Ron (Bernie) Beyers of West Lafayette and Mesa; Diane (Jamie) McInnes of Delta, British Columbia, Canada and Mesa, Sally (Joe) Reynolds of Portage, Rob Beyers of Mesa, and Gayle (Larry) Webb of Indianapolis; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. A grandson and great-grandson preceded him in death.

A memorial service and reception will be held at First United Methodist Church at 1 p.m. on Feb 2, 2013, including a Masonic service. A celebration of his life will be held at the Brentwood West Clubhouse, 3104 E. Broadway Road, Mesa, AZ, at 5 p.m. on Feb 2, 2013.

Memorial contributions may be given to: Zorah Shrine Transportation, 420 N. 7th St,, Terre Haute, IN, 47807; or First United Methodist Church of Mesa, 15 E. 1st Ave., Mesa, AZ, 85210.
