BRAZIL, Ind. —
William “Bill” Loren VanGilder, 75, of Brazil, passed away at 5:02 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 13, 2013, in Union Hospital. Bill was born on Dec. 9, 1936, to Loren and Florence (Sowder) VanGilder.
He served his country in the United States Navy for four years. He was a member and Past Master of Riley Masonic Lodge 390. Bill also was a member of American Legion, Scottish Rite, and Zorah Shrine. He enjoyed fishing, flying, hunting, working models, and spoiling his grandchildren.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Donald VanGilder and Arnold VanGilder. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Sandra (Dooley) VanGilder; sons, Bill VanGilder of Marshall, Ill., and Joe VanGilder and his wife Carolyn of North Carolina; daughters, Debbie Honsowetz and her husband Mike of Lafayette, and Lynda Forti and her husband Dave of New Jersey; grandchildren, Laura Mirabella, Tom Forti, Quentin VanGilder, Monica VanGilder, Taylor Honsowetz, and Nathan Honsowetz; great-granddaughter, Kyle; brothers, Richard VanGilder and Alfred VanGilder; sisters, Sandra Kimmell, Judy Pierce, and Carol Sluder; and his faithful companions whom he loved spending time with, his Dachshunds, Max and Simon.
Funeral services are 1 p.m. today at DeBaun Springhill Chapel, 85 E. Springhill Drive. The Rev. Pat Sleeth will be officiating. Burial will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery. A Masonic service will be at the start of funeral services. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the American Heart Association or the Terre Haute Humane Society.
