Nila Elizabeth Whalen, 85, of Terre Haute, went Home to be with the Lord. She passed away Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013, in Davis Gardens Health Center. She was born on Feb. 20, 1927, in Spencer, to George Greenwood Sr. and Jennie Haton Greenwood.

Nila had many joys in life; music crocheting, sewing, arts and crafts, crosswords puzzles, bingo, and playing the organ, but most of all she loved her church and God.

Nila was married to Albert Loren Whalen Sr., in September 1951, who preceded her in death on July 17, 1975. She also was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Albert L. Whalen Jr. (May 7, 1977); two brothers, Carl Greenwood Sr., and Russell Greenwood; and two sisters, Aurelia Greenwood, and Irene Ooley. She is survived by three sons, Clay Curtis “Curt” Whalen (Sally) of Brazil, Carl W. Whalen of Dunlap Ill., and James George (Ray) Deakins (Robin) of Missouri; four daughters, Alice Marie Whalen of Bloomfield, Judy Irene Wilson of Mesa, Ariz., Mary Anne Parker (David) of Winnsboro, S.C., and Nila Joann Jorgenson (Steven) of Santa Rosa, Calif. Nila also leaves behind eight grandchildren, Dustin, Derik, Joshua, Jameson, Jessica, Andrew, Brandon, and Melissa; one great-grandson, Carter O. Whalen; one brother, George Greenwood Jr.; one sister, Ina Lois Darling; many nieces and nephews; great-nieces and nephews; and friends, family, and loved ones.

Funeral services for Nila will be held on Monday, Jan. 14, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. in the Chapel at Highland Lawn Cemetery, with visitation from 10 a.m. until service time, with Pastor Kyle Andrews officiating.
