CORY—John Cummins, 75, of Cory, went to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, Jan. 11, 2013. He passed away in his residence surrounded by his family.
John was born Oct. 4, 1937 in New Goshen, to Robert and Iva Cummins.
In May of 1956, he married Madeline Blackburn. They had four children. Three daughters, Deanna Rector-Johnson, Juliana Souder and her husband, Don, and Robbyn Clark and her husband, Yates; one son, John Brian Cummins, who preceded him in death. They also have six grandchildren, Shannon Cannon (Tom), Shane Johnson (Tosha), Brian Baumgartner (Ashleigh), Brandon Baumgartner (Krystal), Jessica Jackson (Travis) and Clint Souder (Rochelle). He is also survived by 16 great-grandchildren, whom John was so proud of and loved so dearly. John is also survived by brothers, Charles Cummins (Carol), Joe Cummins; sisters, Catherine Bailey, Cookie Mitchell and Mary Doris Vaira, who preceded him in death; and many nieces, nephews and loved ones. He was also proceded in death by one great-granddaughter, Ryanne Marie Baumgartner.
John graduated from Fayette High School. His favorite thing to do was fly with his neighbor, Bob Turner, in his wing tryke or fly in any plane that someone would take him up in. His son helped to fulfill his dream by taking flying lessons and received his license at 17. He also loved to restore tractors, trucks and cars. He also enjoyed helping his son-in-law and grandson on the farm. He liked NASCAR and nationwide races.
The family wishes to thank VNA Hospice of the Wabash Valley and our “special nurse” Connie. All were excellent nurses and aids, exceptional and compassionate people.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013 at Greiner Funeral Home, 2005 N. 13th St., Terre Haute. Dr. Jerry Caskey and Pastor Bob Roush will be officiating. Burial will be at Zion Cemetery in Cory. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m., Monday, Jan. 14, 2013, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Barbour Avenue United Methodist Church, 1401 Barbour Ave., Terre Haute, Indiana 47804, or VNA Hospice of the Wabash Valley, 400 Eighth Ave., Terre Haute, Indiana 47804.
