  An Interstate 5 bridge over a river north of Seattle collapsed Thursday evening, dumping vehicles and people into the water, the Washington State Patrol said.

Brenda J. Higham

TERRE HAUTE — Brenda J. Higham, 70, of Terre Haute, passed away Sunday, Jan. 6, 2013, in Union Hospital. She was retired from Union Hospital. Brenda was born April 9, 1942, in Terre Haute, to John Liffick and Hermina Minnie (Munch) Liffick.

She is survived by a daughter, Tonya Sue Maesch and husband Harold “Bub” of Brazil; sons, Charles “Chuck” Arbaugh and wife Gerri of Bentonville, Ark., Darrell E. Higham and wife Lynne of Terre Haute, and Ronald J. Higham of Terre Haute; sisters, Scherry Winn of Mishawaka, Patricia Risen of Terre Haute, and Beverly Patterson of Terre Haute; brother, Norman Liffick; grandchildren, Billy Maesch and wife Kelly, Shawn Maesch, Carissa Berry and husband Terry, Rex Higham III, Tabitha Townsend and husband Jimmy, Darrell Higham Jr., and Jeremy Carter and wife Sara; great-grandchildren, Kaiden, Jaelyn, Audrey, Bricen, Shaileigh, Syble, Banyan, Jesse, Urijah, Lillianna, Jesse, and Justin; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Rex Higham Jr.; sisters, Charlotte Briles and Muriel Green; and brothers, Boots Liffick, Raymond Liffick, Marvin “Mike” Liffick, and Darrell Liffick.

Brenda loved playing bingo and cards and enjoyed watching her game shows and listening to Elvis. Her house was always the gathering spot for friends and family and Brenda loved spending time with all of them.

Visitation is Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013, from 4 to 8 p.m., in Callahan-DeBaun Funeral Home, 2425 Wabash Ave. with funeral services on Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013, at 1 p.m., with Pastor Jeff Lee officiating. Burial will be in Highland Lawn Cemetery. Online condolences may be left at:
