June C. Mayes

MARSHALL, Ind. — June C. Mayes, age 91, of Tangier, and formerly of Marshall, went home to be with her Lord Jesus on Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013. June was born June 30, 1921, in Farmersville, Ill., to Edwin and Bertha Jung, one of three children. She was preceded in death by her brother, Burl Jung. She married Cecil M. Mayes on Nov. 18, 1944, in Tennessee; he preceded her in death on Dec. 11, 1995. June and Cecil lived in Marshall, where they began their family. When June’s children were young, she attended Marshall Federated Church, where she helped with Bible School and other Church activities. She also was a Cub Scout Leader. June lived with her daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Jon McLain, for five years and has lived at Rockville Nursing and Rehab Center for the past year. She was a wonderful wife, Mom and Mawmaw. The Cardinals were her favorite team and bird. She loved carnations and her favorite color was red. She attended Mount Hermon Bible Church in Tangier, where her son-in-law, Jon McLain, preaches.  

June is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Jon McLain of Tangier; a son and daughter-in-law, Cecil and Sally Mayes of Marshall; a sister, Ruth Molano of Augusta, Ga.; five grandchildren, Jonny (Dee) McLain of Brazil, Nikki (Mike) Wood of Marshall, Carri (John) Earl of Tangier, Darice (Travis) Largent of Fairfield, Calif., and Derek Mayes of Marshall; nine great-grandchildren, Tiffany McLain and Zachary McLain of Rockville, Nicolas McLain of Brazil, Chelsie Wood and Anthony Wood of Marshall, Laney Earl, Jacob Earl, and Tatum Earl of Tangier, and Landon Largent of Fairfield; and one great-great-grandchild, Alaiya Steele of Rockville.  

Services will be held Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013, at 1 p.m. at Barnes and Rice Funeral Home, 111 East High St., in Rockville, with Brother Don Perry officiating. Burial will be at Bethany Cemetery in Marshall. Friends may call from 11 a.m. until the time of the service on Tuesday.
