TERRE HAUTE — Dorothy L. McIntyre, 88, of Terre Haute died Wednesday, January 2, 2013 in Royal Oaks Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was formerly a teacher in the Brownsburg Community School System. Dorothy was born July 19, 1924, in Terre Haute, Indiana, to Julius Herman and Eva Shepard Herman. She was preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, Kenneth McIntyre.

Survivors include a grandson, Thomas Bird and his fiancé, Corey Tost of Atlanta, Georgia; two granddaughters, Elizabeth McDonald and her husband Andy of Cumming, Georgia and Niki Baker and her husband Aaron of Atlanta, Georgia; a brother, Donald Herman and his wife, Erma of Terre Haute; a sister, Nancy Hughes and her husband Bob of Knoxville, Tennessee; a step-son, Kevin McIntyre of Indiana; and two step-daughters, Karen Burnett of Indiana and Karla Brown of Arkansas. She was also preceded in death by her parents; her son, Thomas Bird; and two sisters, Irene Rogers and Ruth Herman.

Dorothy, while living in Clay City, delivered Meals on Wheels for over 10 years with her husband Kenneth. She was an accomplished quilter having won numerous Blue Ribbons from both the State and County Fairs, and a 30- year member of the Women’s International Bowling Congress.

Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m.. Saturday, January 5, 2013, in Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25th Street, with Chaplain Wayne Grumbling officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is scheduled prior to services Saturday, January 5, 2013 from 1 to 3 p.m. in the funeral home. If friends so desire, Memorial Contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 50 East 91st Street, Suite 100, Indianapolis, Indiana 46209.
