Larry E. Myers

TERRE HAUTE — Larry E. Myers, our dedicated and devoted servant of the Lord was born into eternal life on the eve of his Savior’s birth, Monday, Dec. 24, 2012, at his residence, in Terre Haute surrounded by his loving family at the age of 63. Larry was born in Terre Haute, on Jan. 27, 1949, the son of Alfred Martin Myers and the former Constance W. Maynard. After Constance’s tragic passing, Alfred was united in marriage to Marcella South, who loving welcomed and adopted Larry as her own.

Larry grew up in Riley and proudly went forth for our country from 1967-1971 during the Vietnam Conflict, where he served with the U.S. Navy and was stationed on both the U.S.S. Kearsarge and the U.S.S. Coral Sea. Larry was proud of his duties as a damage control man and with the armed forces police. It was during his time in the Navy that he would meet and fall in love with his soul mate and future wife, the former Cheryl Lynn Hathcox. He strongly believed in God first, followed by his country and his family. Larry would later go on to work as general foreman for U.S. Gypsum Co. in California, and also worked in the asphalt coating industry.

A man of great character and faith, Larry’s commitment to our Lord was unwavering even until his final days. He always found the good in each and every individual, and never spoke ill of anyone. He was a faithful and proud member of the Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church and also enjoyed prison ministry.

Larry enjoyed both deep sea and lake fishing, along with camping. He was a passionate advocate for Alcoholics Anonymous and was also a life time member of the Vietnam Veterans of America and American Legion Post 328.

Larry never met a stranger, and was excellent with remembering names, faces and personalities. His kind, pure and true nature will live on in the hearts of those he touched for generations to come.

Larry leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife, Cheryl Lynn Myers; mother, Marcella Myers; and siblings, Mary Louise and husband John Coleman, Connie Sue and husband Frank Fisher, Elizabeth Ann “Libby” and husband Joseph Fernandez, Alfred Martin “Marty” Myers II, John G. and wife Laura Myers, Tracy Lee and wife Pamela Myers, Edward “Eddie” and wife Margie Myers and Marcia Jane and husband V. Scott Lough, all of the Terre Haute area. He was the proud uncle of Marah Lough Hay and loving Godfather of Crystal Marie Moore. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews, along with several great-nieces and nephews and a few great-great-nieces and nephews.

In addition to his birth mother, Constance, Larry was welcomed home to heaven by his father, Alfred M. Myers; two brothers, William “Bill” Myers and Joey Myers; along with his two nephews, James J. Myers and Brian J. Coleman.

Visitation will be held today, Dec. 27, 2012, from 4 until 8 p.m. at Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church, 3050 Davis Drive. Visitation will continue Friday, Dec. 28, 2012, from 9 a.m. until Larry’s funeral ceremony at 10 a.m. at the church. He will then be laid to rest at Oak Hill Cemetery in Riley. In lieu of flowers, memorial contribution in memory of Larry may be directed to Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church. Mattox-Wood Funeral Home assisted the Myers family with final arrangements.
