  UPDATE 4: Deadly tornado roars through Oklahoma City suburb

  A monstrous tornado at least a half-mile wide roared through the Oklahoma City suburbs Monday, flattening entire neighborhoods and destroying an elementary school with a direct blow as children and teachers huddled against winds up to 200 mph. At least 51 people were killed, and officials said the death toll was expected to rise.

TERRE HAUTE — Virginia Rose Adams, 83, of McCordsville, Ind., passed away May 2, 2012. She was born Dec. 15, 1928, in Vigo County, Ind., to the late Roy and Mary Doyal. She graduated from Otter Creek High School. Mrs. Adams retired in 1997 from the United States Postal Service after 12 years of dedicated service. She also worked in the jewelry department at Macy’s Glendale. She was a faithful member of Unity North Truth Center.

She was preceded in death by husband, Elza V. Adams; daughter, Marsha Walker; siblings, Robert Doyal, Helen Yarber Corn, Ruth Wells, and Sarah Thompson; grandson, Tom Charles Walker; and great-grandson, Taylor Ray Adams. She leaves to cherish her loving memories, children, William “Bill” Adams (Lynda) of Roachdale, Janice L. Beene of McCordsville, and Elza Leroy Adams (Mary) of Midland, Ga.; sisters, Mary Callecod of Terre Haute, and Margaret Hastings of Seattle, Wash.; grandchildren, Steve, Jonathon, and Michael Walker, and Will Adams, Melissa Roberts (Rodney), Frankfort, and Lora Beene Ashley (Graham), Megan Adams and Cara Horn, Indianapolis; six great-grandchildren, and a host of loving relatives and friends.

Friends may call Sunday, May 6, 2012, from 12 noon to 2 p.m. in Flanner and Buchanan-Washington Park East, 10722 East Washington St. Funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. Burial will be on Monday, May 7, 2012, at 11 a.m. in Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery, in Terre Haute.
