Lester Paul Woods, 92, of Hymera, passed away on Saturday, May 5, 2012, at Miller’s Merry Manor in Sullivan. He was born on Nov. 9, 1919, in Sullivan County, Ind., the son of James and Rachel (West) Woods. Lester was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He worked as a coal miner at Old Ben Mine in Illinois and was a member of the United Mine Workers.
Lester was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Delores Woods; three brothers, Walter Woods, Clifford Woods, and Hershel Woods; and three sisters, Ester Beadle, Syvilla Worth, and Lucille Johnson.
Survivors include two sons, Paul (Judy) Woods of Dugger and Gary (Brenda) Woods of Hymera; one daughter, Virginia (Kenny) Weaver of Hymera; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and one brother, James (Mary) Woods of Howesville.
Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday, May 8, 2012, at Newkirk’s Funeral Home, 8185 E. Main St., in Dugger, with the Rev. Mark Bledsoe officiating. Interment will follow in K of P Cemetery located in Hymera. Friends may call from 12 noon until 3 p.m. on Tuesday, May 8, 2012, at the funeral home.
