Leylahnd Aleczandar Wesley Owens

Leylahnd Aleczandar Wesley Owens, 22, of Terre Haute, passed away Wednesday, May 23, 2012, as a result of injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident. He was born Dec. 22, 1989, in Terre Haute, to Wesley Owens and Malissa Bierlein Owens.

Leylahnd was a graduate of Terre Haute North Vigo High School.

He was employed at Kroger as a pharmacy tech. Many times he would stop what he was doing and spend time talking to the customers that came into the pharmacy. Leylahnd had many dreams for the future. He planned to go back to college in the fall to pursue a career in the medical field. Leylahnd loved riding his motorcycle and playing basketball. He enjoyed umpiring baseball games at several fields around town. He was very family oriented and was often heard saying, “family first.” He kept a close circle of friends and was always seen with a smile on his face. He was a very giving young man, always putting others before himself. He loved to joke around and had a great sense of humor. Leylahnd was well loved and will be missed by all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Lester Ross; great-grandparents, James and Yolanda McDuffie, Barbara and Wallace Webb, and James Ross.

Leylahnd is survived by his parents; brothers, Wesley Owens Jr. and Devlin Owens; sisters, Erica Owens, Maleyke Owens and Denise Owens; his long time girlfriend, Madison Steward; maternal grandparents, Patricia A. McDuffie, Alan Bierlein, and David and Cindy Baecker; paternal grandparents, Joyce Owens, Joan Barnes-Ross, and William and Kay Owens; and a host of friends, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Services will be Friday, June 1, 2012, at 1 p.m., with visitation from 12 noon until service time, at Terre Haute North Vigo High School auditorium, 3434 Maple Ave. Visitation will also be held Thursday, May 31, 2012, from 5 to 8 p.m., at the school auditorium. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Leylahnd Owens Memorial Fund at First Financial Bank. Greiner Funeral Home, 2005 N. 13th St., has been entrusted with arrangements.
