Coal City —
Arvin Franklin Pennington, 77, Coal City, went to be with Jesus on Nov. 5, 2012, in his home, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born Dec. 12, 1934, in Casey County, Ky., son of the late Jesse Cole Pennington and Flora (Allen) Pennington. He was united in marriage to Nora Angela (Redmond) Pennington on March 10, 1956, in Lizton. Of this unity came a family of five children.
Frank was a member of Beech United Methodist Church and served in many capacities and gave much of himself to the church over the years of his membership. He helped to found the Coal City Volunteer Fire Department in the early 1970s and served as one of the first fire chiefs. Frank was known to have quite a sense of humor and to be quick witted.
He enjoyed watching hummingbirds, never letting their sugar water run dry, as well as home-cooked meals from his wife. He also thoroughly enjoyed White Castle, treating his family to cases of them over the years, as well as Long John Silvers. He also very much enjoyed burned peanut butter cookies.
Frank was a very determined man and could accomplish anything he set his mind to do. He had in the past served in the U.S. Army. He spent much of his time outdoors with his cattle and farm ground, as well as alongside his wife, Angela. Adoring animals and working with his hands, Frank lived a full life tending farm and had in the past had a construction company.
Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Nora Angela Pennington; daughter, Glenda Sue Richmond and husband Pastor Larry; sons, Daniel “Dan” Franklin Pennington and wife Sara, Robert “Bob” Cole Pennington, Jeffrey “Jeff” Tod Pennington and wife Sherri, and Paul Douglas Pennington and wife Tina; grandchildren, Wes Camp and wife Whitney, Ryan Camp (Ashley), Gus Camp (De), Angie Camp, Emilee Pennington, Ethan Pennington, Nate Pennington and wife Dessa, J.T. Pennington, Tyler Pennington, Jesse Pennington, Kameron Pennington, Chinoah Pennington, Lindcoya Fidler and husband Andrew, and Mylin Pennington; great-grandchildren, Will, Jayden, Mason, and Leah; brothers, Arvil Pennington and wife Phyllis, Charlie Pennington and wife Peggy, Tom Pennington and wife Roxanne; sisters, Artilla Williams and husband Paul, Marcella Luckey and husband Verlin, and Fern Baringer and husband Steve; sister-in-law, Clara Pennington; and a brother-in-law, Jim Nietzel.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Alvin (Vrena) Pennington and Ennis Pennington; and a sister, Uzella Nietzel.
Friends will be received Thursday, Nov. 8, 2012, from 4 to 8 p.m., at Schoppenhorst Funeral Home, in Clay City, and again on Friday, Nov. 9, 2012, at Beech United Methodist Church from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. Services will be Friday at the church at 11 a.m., with Pastor Judy Lints officiating. Burial will follow at Beech Church Cemetery. A special heartfelt thank you to Margaret of Hospice for her love and care for Frank. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Lung Association 115 W. Washington St., Indianapolis, IN 46204 Online condolences can be made at:
