TERRE HAUTE —
Docial Jeannette (Porter) Wimberly was born to Nathaniel Porter and Ruthie Lee Allen, on Sept. 22, 1936, and was the second of 16 children. She graduated from Garfield High School and worked in the food service industry until her employment with the Vigo County School District from which she retired. While employed, she served as the initial secretary of the Maintenance and Custodian Association for the union at Vigo County School Corporation.
Docial is survived by her husband, Calvin; her children and spouses: sons, Edward, Gregory and Jeffery; and daughters, Natalie and Nika.
She was proceeded in joining the Almighty by daughter, Alicia and son, Robert. She also leaves behind four beloved sisters; seven devoted brothers; 30 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends. She was hopeful of seeing the birth of her first great-great-grandchild in the near future.
Sister Wimberly was a life-long member of Mount Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church, where she served on the Mother's Board, taught Youth Sunday School, and sang in the choir. Docial is remembered by all for her huge heart, love for life, and the strength of her convictions. Her passing is grieved by the many she touched during her life.
Services are 12 noon Friday, March 22, 2013, at Mount Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church. Interment is in Roselawn Memorial Park. Calling hours are 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 21, 2013, at the church.
