Betty J. Mason

TERRE HAUTE — Betty J. Mason, 85 of Seelyville, went to meet her Heavenly Father at 2:05 a.m. March 17, 2013, in Terre Haute Regional Hospital. She was born in Three Oaks, Mich., on Dec. 29, 1927, to John and Inez DeBoer.

Betty was a member of Vigo County Republican Women’s Club. She served as precinct committeemen for Lost Creek Township B for approximately 35 years. She also was a member of The Lost Creek Senior Citizens Board, served on The Glenn Civic Center Board of Directors and was a member of Wabash Valley Sports Center and served on their board of directors. She received the 2002 Older Hoosier of the year award, sponsored by Area 7 on Aging. She served on the Advisory Board of Area 7 on Aging. She was a volunteer for the Seelyville Volunteer Fire Department fundraisers. She was always a willing volunteer for all the agencies she was involved in. She received the Emeritus Award from the Glenn Civic Center. In 1983, she received The Darrell E. Felling Achievement Award. In 1990 Betty received, from The State of Indiana House of Representatives, The Distinguished Senior Citizen for Indiana Award. She went to the State House in Indianapolis to receive this award, which was presented to her by Governor Evan Bayh.

She is survived by her husband of 64 years, David J. Mason. She also is survived by her three children: son, David D. Mason and wife Marsha of Cloverdale; daughter, Robin A. Landrum and husband Artus of Seelyville; and her youngest son, James A. Mason and wife Connie of Dennison, Ill. Betty had seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. She also is survived by several nieces and nephews; and two sisters of Three Oaks.

A memorial service will be held Friday, March 22, 2013, at 4 p.m. at Union Baptist Church, 4075 East Harlan Drive, Terre Haute. Pastor Rod Maris will be officiating.  There will be a gathering of friends and family from 2 p.m. until service time at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to American Diabetes Association.  Greiner Funeral Home, 2005 North 13th Street, in Terre Haute, was entrusted with the arrangements.
