Leonard L. Barnes

TERRE HAUTE — Leonard L. Barnes, 69, of Terre Haute, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Dec. 13, 2012, at Union Hospital, with his family by his side.

Leonard was born in Terre Haute, on Oct. 23, 1943, to the late Charles and Mildred (Stout) Barnes. He was united in marriage to the former Josephine Holcomb, and together their marriage was blessed with over 20 years.

A man of hard work and dedication, Leonard worked for several years at General Housewares Corp. and retired as a Lathe Operator. He was a proud U.S. Air Force Veteran, serving during Vietnam, and enjoyed his memberships with the Eagles and the American Legion, Post 104. In his free time, Leonard enjoyed watching television and following sports, especially baseball. His generous and kind-hearted spirit will live on in the hearts of those he touched for generations to come.

Left to cherish Leonard's memory are his loving wife, Josephine Barnes; son, David Barnes; step-daughter, Cherie and husband Michael Jones; grandchildren, Randy, Joshua and Jessie Hancock and Sarah and Marrisa Barnes; great-grandchildren, Triston, Shelbie and Jorjia Hancock; nephews, Mark and wife Debra Daily and Michael Barnes; niece, Cathy Cummins; great-nieces, Amy Hunt and April Clark; great-nephews, Charlie Daily and Jeff Brown, along with a host of other family members and friends.

In addition to his parents, Leonard was welcomed home to heaven by his stepson, Lyle “Lee” Hamilton III; his brother, Keith Barnes; and his sister, Barbara Barnes.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 21, 2012, at Roselawn Memorial Park. Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Mattox-Wood Funeral Home. Expressions of sympathy may be shared with the family online at:
