TERRE HAUTE — John A. Stableton, 78, of Terre Haute, Ind., passed away on June 26, 2012, at Union Hospital. He was born Nov. 10, 1933, in Vigo County, to Claude and Opal Stableton.

He was a member of Carpenters Local 133, worked several years for Shelton Hannig, Hannig Construction, I.C.E. and Newlin Johnson Developing. He loved playing cards and spending time with his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife for 58 years, Shirley; his parents, Claude and Opal; and a brother, Tom Stableton

He is survived by daughters, Paula Conley and husband Skip, and Pam LaVallie and husband Ron; sister, Ruth Heazeltine; sister-in-law, Judy Stableton; grandchildren, Chip Conley and wife Michelle, John Conley and fiancé Stefanie Loudermilk, Scott Conley and fiancé Amy Jo Roth, Joe LaVallie, Jaime Swick and husband Justin, and Raven Shyrock and husband Wade; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, June 30, 2012, at Mattox-Wood Funeral Home and Crematory, 4660 Lafayette St., with visitation from 1 to 3 p.m. at the funeral home. Officiating will be Pastor Bob Parker.
