TERRE HAUTE —
Jacalyn “Jackie” Porter, 58, of Terre Haute, and Lebanon, Tenn., went to be with her Lord and Savior after a three year battle with cancer. She was born on May 13, 1954, to Jack and Betty Condra, who precede her in death.
She graduated from Loogootee High School and attended Indiana State University. Jackie worked for the Chevrolet dealership in Terre Haute for five years, before going to work for Hercules/AET, where she was employed for 31 years, before retiring earlier this year. She attended Barbour Avenue United Methodist Church with Ministers Bob and Kathy Roush. Her passion was for volunteering for many youth programs, which included president of North Little League and secretary of Vigo County Football. Jackie was a team mom for many youth teams as well, where her motherly instinct had a life changing effect on many young people. Jackie always loved kids, as they did her.
Survivors include her husband of 23 years, David Porter; one son, Cory Porter of Terre Haute; two stepsons, Justin (Kim) Porter of Noblesville and Seth Porter of Terre Haute; one stepdaughter, Ashley Porter of Clinton; and one awesome grandson, Owen Porter, along with another grandson on the way. Jackie also leaves to cherish her memory, her sister, Carolyn (Rick) Rhoten of North Wales, Pa.; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Ruth and Sam Ferguson of Terre Haute; one sister-in-law, Becky Grimes of Terre Haute; one brother-in-law, Tom (Nancy) Porter of Bargersville; four nephews, Grant (Lara) Rhoten of Dayton, Ohio, Jason (April) Manning of New Palestine, Jared (Kim) Grimesof Terre Haute, and Suzanne (Justin) Hart of Morristown; eight great-nieces and great-nephews, Mackenzie, Ryleigh, Matthew, Ben, Logan, Sam, Amelia, and Adrianne. Jackie also is survived by many close friends that helped her through her battle that she fought so courageously. She had her guardian angel with her until the very end, Carol Brown. Jackie also had a great friend in her dog, Max, who was like a child to her. Max will miss Jackie very much until they meet again.
Visitation will be held on Friday, Nov. 16, 2012, from 4 until 7 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home in Terre Haute. Jackie’s funeral ceremony will take place at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 17, 2012, at the funeral home with interment to follow in Roselawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers will include Grant Rhoten, Jason Manning, Jared Grimes, Richard Targett, Jim Leitgabel, and Dave Bledsoe. Online condolences may be shared with the family at:
