Marilyn Hiatt

TERRE HAUTE —

Funeral service for Marilyn Hiatt, age 83, who passed away Oct. 26, 2012, will be Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Dale Woodward Funeral Home, 167 Ridgewood Ave., Holly Hill, Fla., with Pastor David Keazirian officiating. Entombment will follow at Shady Rest Cemetery. Friends wishing to call and pay their respects may do so Monday from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Marilyn Meyers was born in Terre Haute, daughter of Beatrice Lillian Carter Meyers and Michael John Meyers. She attended school there, and in high school she played the violin in the string ensemble and was a member of the school newspaper team. She married Charles Hiatt in Terre Haute on March 11, 1951. Her professional background included 14 years in banking and she was secretary to Chapman Root, the Coca-Cola legend for eight years, who brought her to Florida. She also owned and operated Professional and Businessmen’s Service for 10 years. She has never been a bystander but, rather, a dedicated contributor to organizations - all of which have benefited from her diligent and caring nature. While her children were young, she was a room mother at their school, the Ormond Beach Elementary School, a team mother for the Cub Scouts, and president of Demolay Mothers’ Club while her sons were involved. She was treasurer of Corbin Avenue School Kindergarten PTA which established the first kindergarten in the public school system. The following year the other schools added kindergarten. She has also served the Ormond Beach Union Church in many positions, including serving on the Diaconate, Stewardship Committee, as a teacher in both Sunday School and Nursery School, and on two Pastoral Search Committees. She also was president of the Adult Sunday School Class when the new church was being built and fundraisers were required. She was a Circle Chairman for two years, had been very active participant on the Prayer Chain, and a counter for Sunday contributions. In addition, she has served as the vice president of the church and its council in 2001. She has many interests including flowers, especially orchids, teddy bears and angels, music, taking pictures - especially for special occasions - and is an armchair sports fan enjoying football, basketball, ice skating and auto racing.

Survivors include two sons, Charles F. Hiatt II and Gary L. Hiatt; a stepson, Elwood Edward “Jerry” Hiatt; and six grandchildren, Tyler, Savannah, Jared, David, Michael, and Doug.

Marilyn had been a dedicated, caring, conscientious participant in life, always being concerned with others’ needs and doing whatever she could to fill those needs. Her family has always been uppermost in her mind and she has been there for them and has had much pleasure and happiness from them.

In lieu of other remembrances, the family requests donations be made to American Cancer Society, 1737 N. Clyde Morris Blvd., No. 140, Daytona Beach, FL 32117 or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Condolences for the family can be sent to:
