  UPDATE 4: Deadly tornado roars through Oklahoma City suburb

  A monstrous tornado at least a half-mile wide roared through the Oklahoma City suburbs Monday, flattening entire neighborhoods and destroying an elementary school with a direct blow as children and teachers huddled against winds up to 200 mph. At least 51 people were killed, and officials said the death toll was expected to rise.

Jack Mickschl

TERRE HAUTE — Jack Mickschl, 91, of Terre Haute, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2012, in Terre Haute Regional Hospital. Jack Mickschl was born in Iowa. He attended Olivet Nazarene University, Indiana State University and has a degree from Indiana University. He was a retired credit manager.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 56 years, Sarah J. Mickschl, nee Steele; and a son, Daniel Lee Mickschl, formerly of Indiana.

Survivors include three sons and their spouses, James and Jeanne Mickschl and Donald and Dorothea Mickschl, all of Indiana, and Robert and Edna Mickschl of Georgia; six daughters, Mary Ann and Charles Hanselman of Minnesota, Carol Maresch and Jeanett Mickschl, both of Indiana, Patricia and Byron Ingalls, Janace and Ike Harley, all of Michigan, and Elizabeth and Leon Campbell of Illinois; 30 grandchildren; and 43 great-grandchildren.

Son, Robert Mickschl will officiate at a graveside service being held for the family in their father's honor at Clearview Cemetery near Brazil at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, 2012. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests charitable contributions be made to the Salvation Army in his memory. Greiner Funeral Home, 2005 North 13th Street, in Terre Haute, was entrusted with arrangements. Online condolences may be made at:
