Lloyd L. ‘Ace’ Welker

TERRE HAUTE — Lloyd L. “Ace” Welker, 78, of Terre Haute, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2012, at 11:29 p.m., in Indianapolis. He was born Aug. 23, 1934, in Tyler, Texas, to Buar A. Welker and Audrey (Shaklee) Welker. Lloyd was a semi-driver with Gibson Coal Company/Gibco for 35 years, then spent 12 years driving for Wolfe’s Auto Auction.

He is survived by a daughter, Mary Ann Tarwater and husband Gregg of Terre Haute; two sons, Lloyd “Bud” Welker Jr., and Harold A. Welker and wife Terri, all of Terre Haute; four grandchildren, Alicia Tarwater and her boyfriend Timmy Kerns, Gregg Tarwater Jr., Tommy Duicus, and Norma Wilson; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 52 years, Marcia Ann (Brokaw) Welker, died Aug. 18, 2009; his twin brother, Floyd Welker; a sister, Bertha Jane Welker Wallace; a daughter, Rio Rita Welker; a grandson, Jimmy Wilson; and a great-grandson, Skyler Ray Bell.

He was a life-time member of Eagle’s Aerie 291. He enjoyed bowling, watching football, working on cars, and riding Harley’s with his son. Lloyd also was known as “Atlas”  or “Shortcut” for his vast knowledge of Indiana roads.

Visitation will be Saturday, Oct. 13, 2012, from 10 a.m. until 12 noon, in DeBaun Springhill Chapel, 85 E. Springhill Drive, with funeral services at 12 noon, with Dr. Rev. Larry Reck officiating. Burial will be in South Vigo Congregational Cemetery. If friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society (envelopes will be available at the funeral home).
