John R. Davis

Perrysville, Ind. — John R. Davis, 89, Chrisman, Ill., and formerly of Perrysville, Ind., passed away at 6:04 a.m. CDT Friday, June 29, 2012 at Pleasant Meadows Christian Village in Chrisman.

He was born March 2, 1923, in Nora, Ky., the son of the late Perry O. and Ida B. Betran Davis. He first married Norma Tillotson on Sept. 2, 1944, in Baghdad, Fla. She preceded him in death on April 5, 1991. He later married Margaret L. Hoggatt on Aug. 29, 1999, in Veedersburg, Ind. She preceded him in death on Nov. 3, 2009.

Survivors include one daughter, Joan (Pastor Kenneth) Green of Crawfordsville, Ind.; one son, Harold (Karen) Davis of Terre Haute, Ind.; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; one sister, Deva Barnes of Oakwood, Ill., and one brother, Gordon Davis of Paris, Texas.

He was preceded in death by three sisters and one brother.

John worked at Olin Corporation in Covington for 30 years, retiring in 1985 from the maintenance department. He was a veteran of World War II serving with the United States Army Air Force. John was a 1941 graduate of Danville High School. He was a member of the Veedersburg Church of God, National American Legion, life member of the China-Burma-India Veterans Association, Vermilion County Illinois Museum and the Geological Society. John enjoyed reading and rebuilding antique cars.

Funeral services: 11 a.m. EDT Tuesday, July 3, 2012, at DeVerter Funeral Home in Cayuga, Ind.; Officiating: Pastor Kenneth Green; Burial: Danville National Cemetery in Danville, Ill., with military rites by the Perrysville American Legion Post 350; Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. EDT Monday, July 2, 2012, at the funeral home.
