TERRE HAUTE — Raymond Leon “Poppy” Tryon, 90, of Terre Haute died Wednesday, June 27, 2012 in Meadows Manor North Retirement and Convalescent Center. He was born September 17, 1921 in Terre Haute to Wayne J. Tryon and Ethel Pierce Tryon. Raymond was a Terre Haute Police Officer from 1949 - 1973 and worked for the Postal Service from 1975 - 1985.

Survivors include his wife, Doris Huxford Tryon, whom he married September 19, 1951; a sister-in-law, Vera Tryon of Robbins, NC; and two nieces, Patricia Tryon Underwood of Dallas, TX and Linda Tryon Trombata of Atlanta, GA. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Donald Tryon.

Raymond was a member of Epiphany Episcopal Church in Detroit, MI. He served his country in the Marines. Raymond also was a member of Lodge #86 F & AM, the Scottish Rite Valley of Terre Haute, V.F.W. Post #972, American Legion Post #40, and the D.A.V. He also belonged to the Fraternal Order of the Police, the Postal Workers Union, and the Retired Police and Fireman’s Association.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 A.M. Saturday, June 30, 2012 in Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 S. 25th Street with Brother Mark Grayless and the Terre Haute Police Department officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is scheduled from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Friday, June 29, 2012. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Vistacare Hospice, 3401 S. 4th Street, Terre Haute, IN 47802.
