G. Catherine Moreland Gummere Jackson ‘Catherine’

TERRE HAUTE — G. Catherine Moreland Gummere Jackson “Catherine,” 77, of Terre Haute, passed away at 9:38 p.m. on May 3, 2012. She was born on Aug. 22, 1934, to James and Chloe (Williams) Moreland. She graduated from Indiana State University with a Master’s Degree in Special Education. She started teaching in the Fall of 1967. Catherine taught at Fuqua Elementary, Dixie Bee Elementary, Terre Town Elementary, Lange Elementary, and Fayette Elementary. Catherine retired from the Vigo County School Corporation. She enjoyed traveling. Her travels took her all around the world. Catherine also enjoyed being outside and working in her flower gardens. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Her family was her pride and joy.

She is survived by her sons, Michael Gummere and his wife Suzy, Jeffrey Gummere and his wife Donna, and Bradly Jackson and his wife Jenny; daughter, Perri Gardner and her husband Matt; grandchildren, John Gummere, Jennifer Gummere-Higginbotham, James “J.C.” Gummere, Jessica Gardner, Kenneth Gardner, Jacque Gummere, Thomas Gardner, and Nolan Jackson; great-grandchildren, Brandon Higginbotham, Colton Higginbotham, Will Higginbotham, and Samantha Gardner Hubbell; sisters, Dolores Englum, and Margaret White; brother, Jimmy Joe Moreland; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and first husband of eight years, Jack H. Gummere, and her second husband of 36 years, Charles E. Jackson.

Funeral services are scheduled for Monday, May 7, 2012, at 10 a.m. at DeBaun Springhill Chapel, 85 E. Springhill Drive. Pastor Rick Swan will be officiating. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be at the funeral home today, May 6, 2012, from 2 until 6 p.m. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution can be made to Children’s Museum of Terre Haute.
