CENTERPOINT — Ellen M. Thomas Hedrick, 77, of Madison, a former resident of Clay County and North Vernon, died at 4:20 a.m., Monday, April 30, 2012, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. She was born Nov. 1, 1934, in Clay County, to Samuel and Lucille Cade Thomas.

Survivors include her companion of 27 years, Harold Richard O'Connor of Madison; a son, William M. Hedrick of Butlerville; two daughters, Laura Church of Terre Haute, and Bobbie Harless of Indianapolis; one stepdaughter, Alanna Strodtbeck of Indianapolis; a stepson, Alan O’Connor of Dallas; brothers, Samuel “Frosty” Thomas and wife Carolyn, and Fred Thomas and wife Doris, all of Centerpoint; her sister, Mary Jo Thomas Steiner and husband Vic of Bowling Green; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Ellen was raised near Centerpoint and Bowling Green and graduated from high school there. She was employed for 32 years with Chase Bank, in Indianapolis, where she worked as a key processor. She enjoyed flowers, gardening, needle work, crocheting, fishing and reading. Ellen was a Christian and prayed often. She had resided in Madison since 2008, and previously in North Vernon for 12 years.

Services are 1:30 p.m. Saturday, May 5, 2012, at Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive, in Madison, with Pastor Troy Hedges officiating. Burial is at Fairmount Cemetery, in Madison. Visitation is 11 a.m. until time of the services Saturday, at the funeral home.
