TERRE HAUTE —
Margaret B. Fortner, 99, of Terre Haute, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012, after a brief illness. She was born on Nov. 6, 1913, to the late Homer and Cora Boyer, in Bowling Green, Ind.
Margaret owned and operated Margaret’s Beauty Shop on Garfield Avenue for many years. She attended church at Mapelwood Christian Church and enjoyed lunch with the seniors at the Sunshine Center. In addition she enjoyed playing bingo with the Senior Citizens. Margaret took much pride and joy with her backyard flower beds and enjoyed sitting on her front porch, visiting with family and friends and most of all being surrounded by her many grandchildren.
Her husband, Claude D. Fortner, preceded her in death on Nov. 22, 1983. She is survived by one daughter, Barbara J. Guthrie of Macon, Ga.; two grandchildren, David W. Guthrie (Bonnie) of Pearl, Miss., and Vanessa L. Hedge (Robert) of Roanoke, Va.; six great-grandchildren, Brandy R. Gieseking (Jessie ) of Terre Haute, Haley Guthrie, Macon Guthrie, Giuliana Guthrie, Dakotta Guthrie and Makenzie Guthrie; and three great-great-grandchildren, Hope, Colleen and Natasha.
She was the only surviving sibling of six, one of which being her twin sister, Madge Howell. There are also several surviving nieces and nephews with special thoughts most recently of Shirley Ray and her sisters Betty Sparks and Sandra Green.
Funeral service will be held Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2012, at 12 noon at Greiner Funeral Home, 2005 North 13th St., in Terre Haute, with Pastor Mark Grayless officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time on Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Maplewood Christian Church, 2000 N. 13th St., in Terre Haute. Online condolences may be made at:
