Betty J. “B.J.” Wake Fisher Boling, 87, of Riley, passed away at 3:43 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2012, at Terre Haute Regional Hospital. She had recently moved to Bethesda Gardens in Terre Haute, after residing in Riley for many years. Betty was born Nov. 19, 1925, in West Terre Haute, to LeRoy Wake and Flora L. Morris Wake.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Leonard L. “Bud” Fisher, on July 10, 1984, and by her second husband, Fred W. Boling, on Sept. 5, 1995. She also was preceded in death by her parents; and two sisters, Genevieve Mattox and Mary Louise Smith.
Survivors include two sisters, Erma E. Thomas and her daughter, Linda Lou Rogers, both of Terre Haute, and Judy E. Wyrick and her husband Robert of West Terre Haute; a brother-in-law, William S. Smith of Terre Haute; a stepson, Leslie W. Boling and his wife Martha of Riley; a stepdaughter, Nancy J. Wood and her husband Oliver of Terre Haute; a stepgranddaughter; two stepgrandsons; and several nieces and nephews.
Betty served in several capacities during her career for several different organizations, beginning with employment by the United States Air Force Quartermaster Corporation, during World War II, during which she worked in the accounting division. She also was employed with the conservation department for state of Indiana. She served as a legal secretary for Paul O. Hertwig, which later became Hertwig & Decker, attorneys at law, for 27 years. She was a court clerk for Lee Easton, Justice of the Peace, until his office closed. She worked as a secretary in the state unemployment trial division and ended her career after 11 years as a data processor and cashier for the state department of public welfare. She then became a volunteer for Hospice of the Wabash Valley for 11 years in various capacities and helped establish a widow and widowers group. She was a member of the Cross Lane Community Church, a member of Terre Haute First Financial Bank Nine Hole Golf League at Rea Park and a member of the Senior Citizens Golf League in Venice, Fla.
Betty’s visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and prior to funeral services at 10 a.m. Saturday in Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, 220 N. Third St., in West Terre Haute, with the Rev. Brett Wilson officiating. Burial will be in Bethesda Memorial Park. Betty’s wishes were that in lieu of flowers, memorial contribution may be made to Hospice of the Wabash Valley, 400 Eighth Ave., Terre Haute, IN 47804 or with envelopes available in the funeral home.
