TERRE HAUTE —
Donald Eugene “Don” Nichols, 67, of Terre Haute, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 25, 2012, at I.U. Medical Center, after a brief battle with cancer. He was born in Terre Haute on Jan. 1, 1945, to Ezra Edward Nichols and Evelyn A. Inman Nichols.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Nichols, whom he married Dec. 23, 1966; his mother, Evelyn A. Krockenberger; two daughters, Leah Campbell and husband Les, and Sara Bateman and husband Mark; four grandchildren, Cade Campbell, Selah Campbell, Hannah Bateman, and Brad Bateman; one brother, Wayne E. Nichols and wife Cindy; a nephew, Bob Nichols; and three nieces, Tara Workman, Deanna Young, and Lynn Patterson — who generously donated a kidney to him four years ago.
He was a retired school teacher, having taught at Van Buren Elementary for 35 years, and during that time enjoyed coaching various sports. He was a member of Hulman Street Wesleyan Church.
Funeral services will be at DeBaun Springhill Chapel on Thursday, Nov. 29, 2012, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Harvey Weaver officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Lawn Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2012, from 4 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to either the American Cancer Society or the Indiana Organ Procurement Organization, in his memory.
