DANA —
Delbert E. Fravel, 92, of Dana, died on Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2012, at the Clinton Gardens. Born Sept. 15, 1920, in Harrison County Ind. (Corydon) He was the son of the late John and Bertha Corbett Fravel.
Delbert graduated from Dana High School in 1938. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in World War II flying 35 missions as a ball turret gunner in a B-17. He farmed in Catlin, Ill., and then Dana, retiring in 1986. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rockville, was a 32nd degree Mason for 65 years at Catlin Lodge No. 285, and a 66-year member of the American Legion Post in Catlin.
His wife of 34 years, Anna Margaret Bussing Benton, preceded him in death, April 14, 2011. He also was preceded in death by one son, Michael Benton.
Survivors include seven children, Jayanne Benton, Lakewood, Calif., John (Becky) Benton, Dana, Teresa (Rick) Baker, Fairview Park, Celia Grossheim, Blanford, Michele (Randy) Lincoln, Oaktown, Dorothy Benton, Blanford, and Kelley Benton, Terre Haute; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews; a sister, Thelma (George) Shutzbaugh; and four sisters-in-law, Betty Jo Brown, Jeffersonville, Gertrude Corley, Savannah, Ga., Madelyn (Max) Hendrix, Dana, and Mary Agnes Bussing, Speedway.
Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 26, 2012, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, in Rockville, with Father Joseph Villa officiating. Burial will be in Bono Cemetery with military graveside honors by Vermillion County Veterans. Visitation will be Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m. at Funeral Home in Dana. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, contribution be made to Indiana Alzheimer’s Association, Multiple Sclerosis Foundation or American Heart Association.
