Bernard ‘Hardy’ White

CLAY CITY — Bernard “Hardy” White, 88, of Coal City, passed away Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013, at Union Hospital. Hardy was born on April 30, 1924, the son of John and Dolly (Reagan) White, in Coal City. He graduated from Coal City High School in 1943 and married Louada Lee Horn on March 30, 1953. Hardy served his country with the United States Army during World War II. He was employed by Lovelace Trucking as a mechanic and driver, where he retired in 1983.

He was a member of the Church of Christ in Coal City. He also was a four-time Past Commander of the Veteran of Foreign Wars Post 6606, member of senior citizens, and American Legion.

Hardy was preceded in death by his wife, Louada White; parents; brothers, Leeroy White, Yocum White, Isaac White, and Robert White; and sister, Katie Bowersock

He is survived by his son, Keith White of Coal City, Kevin White and family of Florida; daughter, Karen (White) Poff and family of Lewis; brother-in-law, Andy Tex Horn; as well as grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren; and extended family and friends.

Services will be Thursday, Feb. 14, 2013, at 1 p.m. at Schoppenhorst Funeral Home, 301 E. Eighth St., in Clay City, with Brother Scott Wiley officiating. Burial will follow in Beech Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 11 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home. Visit www.
