George Robert Parker

TERRE HAUTE — George Robert Parker, 77, of Terre Haute, a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle. and friend died peacefully on the afternoon of Saturday, Dec. 15, 2012, at Meadows Manor North.

George graduated from Gerstmeyer High School in 1954. He proudly served our country with the U.S. Army. George went on to marry the love of his life, the former Joan Grother on Feb. 19, 1955. Their marriage was blessed with six children and countless memories throughout their 58 years together. George retired from the railroad after 42 years of dedicated service. He loved to fish, mushroom hunt and work on old cars. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends for generations to come.

George leaves behind his loving wife, Joan; children, Robert Dean Parker of Terre Haute, Rose Ann Atkinson and husband Dale of Surf City, N.C., and Donald Lee Parker, James Joseph Parker, Ronald Dale Parker and George Allen and wife Sharon Parker, all of Terre Haute. He was the proud and loving grandpa of Chris, Robert, Brandy, Eric, Keri, William Michael, Amanda, Misty, Krista, Ronald, Heather, Joann, George, and Robin. Also surviving are 21 great-grandchildren; sister, Marilyn; and brothers, Raymond and Ralph.

In accordance with George’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial visitation will be held on Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013, from 4 p.m. until George’s memorial ceremony at 5 p.m. at Mattox-Wood Funeral Home, 4660 Lafayette Ave. Expressions of sympathy may be shared with the family online at:
