Noble Dale Keyes, 75, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013, at his residence surrounded by his family, following a seven-year battle with Myelodysplasia. He was born March 16, 193,7 in Terre Haute, to Spencer Lee Keyes and Pearl (Badger) Keyes. Dale graduated from Otter Creek High School in 1957 and married his high school sweetheart, Judith Ann (Stowe) on May 18, 1958.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents; and his brothers, Joseph Keyes and William Fawley. Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Judy; his daughters, Jeanie Keyes-Morris and her husband Michael and Amy Lohman and her husband Lee; grandchildren, Jennifer (Land) Murphy and Patrick, Rachel Keyes, Justin Keyes and Crystal, Zachary Keyes and Heather, Emily Land, Alexander Land, Sean Morris and Wendy, Sarah Morris, Andrew Morris, and Joshua Lohman; great-grandchildren, Azariah and Joel Keyes, Sydney Land, Lilly, Reagan, and Genevieve and Emma Morris; his brother, Gerald “Jerry” Keyes and wife Gail; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many special friends.
His father and two of his brothers were union electricians and he followed in their footsteps, working 34 years at Potter Electric, leaving there in 1993 to start NRK Inc. with his nephew, Randy Keyes. Dale retired from NRK Inc. in 1999 and later sold his interest to Randy who still operates the business today. Dale was a member of the IBEW Local 725 for 50 years. Dale also was the owner of Keyes Manufacturing Inc. for 20 years.
Dale was a member of Associated Building Contractors and served on Vigo County Fair Board. He also was a member of Terre Haute and Bloomington Model A Club’s and German Oberlander Club. Wood-working was always more than just a hobby for Dale and he could build anything. Dale enjoyed restoring his Model A’s, traveling, and spending time drinking coffee, and having lunch with his buddies.
According to his wishes, Dale will be cremated and there will be a celebration of life dinner on Monday, Feb. 4, 2013, from 5 to 8 p.m. with a special tribute to Dale at 7 p.m. at Cross Tabernacle Church, 2929 N. Seventh St.
Dale’s philosophy was to help when you can and give what is needed to those you come in contact with and it will come back to you ten fold, so the family requests in lieu of flowers, that you remember his philosophy and pay it forward. If you desire, you also may make a contribution to the charity of your choice. Mattox-Wood Funeral Home was entrusted with arrangements. Online condolences may be made at: www.mattoxwood.com
