Charles ‘Axe’ Anthony Bender

Charles “Axe” Anthony Bender, 39, passed away Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013, at Terre Haute Regional Hospital. He was born June 20, 1973, in Terre Haute, to Charles and Nancy Bender.

He was employed at Great Dane Trailers in Terre Haute. Charles enjoyed life; he had an outgoing and pleasant personality. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards, dominoes and of course football with his favorite team being the Indianapolis Colts.

Charles was preceded in death by his mother and father, Charles and Nancy Bender. He is survived by three daughters, Careena Bender of Baker, La., Char'da Bender of Columbus, Ohio, and Chantell Bender of Terre Haute; his special friend, Dustie Wycoff of Terre Haute; two brothers, Melvin Childs of Cape Coral, Fla., and Kenneth Bender (Lou Ann) of Terre Haute; six sisters, Schelia Watkins, Angela Childs and Pamela Church (Josh) of Terre Haute, Bernice Hasker and Joann Carpenter (Brian) of Glendale, Ariz., and Maria Bender of Bowling Green, Ky. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews, other relatives, many friends, and his pit bulls, Sasha and Mia.

Cremation has been chosen and a private ceremony is planned. However, Charles family is grateful for all the prayers and encouraging words of so many. A memorial service will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, at Terre Haute Gospel Chapel Church, 2101 Beech St., 812-234-0344, Terre Haute. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests if anyone so desires, memorial contributions may be made to Terre Haute Gospel Church to defray expenses of arrangements.
